Daily Diet

“The first thing we do each day should be to go alone with God and face the duties, the temptations, and the service of that day, and get strength from God for all. We should get victory before the hour of trial, temptation or service comes. The secret place of prayer is the place to fight our battles and gain our victories.” (from How to Pray by R. A. Torrey)

It might not seem to matter, but most people who relapse have already forgotten the benefits of praying, meditating and relying upon a Power outside themselves — every 24-hour day.

Easy Does It

Don’t get bogged down trying to be a “spiritual master” who walks with God in untold bliss every morning. That’s awesome if you ever do experience that, but all we need is practical help for the next 24 hours – that’s it. All we need to do is take a brief moment to remember we have surrendered our will and our life to God, and that our Creator is leading us through every moment today.

In Case of Emergency

Face it — it’s going to happen. Sometime today things won’t be just the way you would have it, so count on it and besides maintaining daily consciousness of God in your life, remember to call on your Higher Power to guide you when things are tough. Our walk is easier as we learn to find help from a Power outside ourself. Any cry for help is good enough, like St. Peter who just said, “Lord save me!” when drowning.

Need more help right now?

Sometimes God works through other people to help us — but we might have to “put feet on our prayers” and reach out to those helpers God has placed in our path. If you don’t have anyone you can call on, check out our “Help Now!” page.
